Agadir in One Day: The Plan, the Times and the Taxis

One day is enough to see Agadir's city sights: Souk El Had in the morning, grilled fish at the port, the beach, then the cable car and kasbah for sunset. Here is the order, what each stop costs, a Monday swap and a version for cruise passengers.

Two timing traps. Souk El Had is closed on Mondays. And the kasbah enclosure closes around 19:00 (20:00 in summer), last entry 30 minutes before: go up the hill about two hours before sunset, not after dark. Sunset is around 17:15 in early December and 19:45 in late June.

The full-day plan

  1. 09:00 – Souk El Had. Free, Tuesday to Sunday. Morning is calmer and sellers are more flexible. Walk the spice, date and olive sections first, then the crafts. Note your gate number (there are 13) and say a firm "no thanks" to self-appointed guides at the entrance. 1.5–2 hours. Souk guide.
  2. 11:00 – Petit taxi downtown (15–30 MAD on the meter). Choose one: the Amazigh Heritage Museum (~20 MAD, 45 minutes; closed one day a week, check first), or the free Jardin d'Olhão with the Musée de la Mémoire (around 10 MAD), the story of the 1960 earthquake in photographs.
  3. 12:30 – Lunch at the port fish stalls. Taxi to the fishing port, north of the Marina. Compare two or three stalls, choose your fish, agree the price per kilo and the total before it goes on the grill. Set platters run 50–120 MAD a person. Fair prices.
  4. 14:00 – The Marina and the beach. Walk from the Marina onto the 6 km beach and the corniche. Swim only between the flags; lifeguards work from about mid-June to mid-September. A sunbed costs 30–100 MAD. In summer this is also the hottest time to be on the shadeless hill, so stay down here. Beach guide.
  5. Two hours before sunset – the cable car. About 15:00 in winter, 17:30 in June. Walk 15 minutes from the Marina (or taxi) to the lower station by Pont Tildi. 130 MAD return, six minutes up. Take a windbreaker: it is always windy on top. Cable car guide.
  6. Straight into the kasbah. 90 MAD, plus 30 MAD for the audio guide, which is worth it because signs are few. About 50 minutes on the walkways and the memorial trail. Last entry 30 minutes before closing. Kasbah guide.
  7. Sunset on the esplanade. The free terrace outside the walls looks over the port, the Marina and the whole bay. Agree a price before any photo with a camel. Ride down after dark for the lights.
  8. Evening – dinner on the corniche or at the Marina. A mid-range meal is 80–150 MAD a person; a tagine in a local place 35–70 MAD. Taxis cost more at night, so agree the fare before you get in.

The Monday version

With the souk and the Musée de la Mémoire closed, replace steps 1 and 2:

  1. 10:00 – Medina Polizzi in Ben Sergao, 4–6 km south (taxi 30–50 MAD, 15–20 minutes). 40 MAD, about 09:00–18:00. Late morning is when the artisans are at work. 1–1.5 hours.
  2. 12:00 – Taxi to the port for lunch, then continue from step 4.

If you would rather be outdoors, a half-day Paradise Valley tour (€12–19, back early afternoon) also fits a Monday morning, but then skip the beach.

Cruise passengers: 6 to 9 hours

Ships dock inside the commercial port at the north end of the bay. There is no terminal building and walking out along the port roads is not recommended. Use the ship shuttle or a taxi from the port gate (agree 30–100 MAD to the centre before getting in). Full details: Agadir cruise port guide.

  1. 10:00 – Cable car and kasbah (130 + 90 MAD). The lower station is just south of the port. Morning light is clear and the kasbah is quiet until about 11:30. 2–2.5 hours with the ride.
  2. 12:30 – Souk El Had, by taxi (not on Mondays: go to the beach promenade instead). 1–1.5 hours.
  3. 14:00 – Fish lunch at the port stalls, next to your ship.
  4. 15:00 – Marina and beach if your all-aboard time allows.
  5. Back at the port gate at least an hour before all-aboard. Morocco has been on GMT (UTC+0) since 20 September 2026, with no clock change for Ramadan; your ship may run on a different time, so check which clock your all-aboard time uses.

Only six hours? Do steps 1 and 3. Want nature instead? Paradise Valley takes 5–6 hours door to door: tight, and only with a tour that offers port pickup.

Getting around

  • Petit taxis (orange) carry up to 3 people within the city, on the meter by day: ask for "le compteur". Typical rides are 15–30 MAD. At night drivers add a surcharge or negotiate: agree the fare first.
  • Uber has operated in Agadir since 1 July 2026, and inDrive is widely used, often cheaper than taxis.
  • On foot: Marina ↔ port fish stalls ↔ beach promenade ↔ cable car station (15 minutes from the Marina).
  • Alsa bus L24 runs up to the kasbah if you skip the cable car; expect roughly 4–7 MAD, cash.

Tips for one day

  • Check the weather and the sea before you decide the order: Agadir weather today. The cable car stops in strong wind.
  • Check what is open now on the opening hours page, especially the museum closing days.
  • Don't buy the cable car online: resellers charge about €23 for the 130 MAD ride.
  • Hustles to know: souk "guides", photo camels, port grills without a price. Read Agadir scams.
  • Staying longer? Switch to 3 days or one week in Agadir, or see all things to do in Agadir.

One day in Agadir: frequently asked questions

Is one day enough for Agadir?

For the city, yes. Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so its sights are few and close together: the cable car and kasbah, Souk El Had, a museum, the port and the beach fit in one well-ordered day. What one day does not cover is the reason most people stay longer: the beach, the activities and day trips such as Paradise Valley or Taroudant. For those, see the 3-day plan.

What if my day in Agadir is a Monday?

Souk El Had and the Musée de la Mémoire are closed on Mondays. Swap the souk for Medina Polizzi (40 MAD, about 09:00–18:00) in the morning; the rest of the day is unchanged. Cruise passengers get caught by this every week.

How much does a day in Agadir cost?

About 430–760 MAD (€40–70) per person: cable car 130 MAD, kasbah 90 MAD (+30 for the audio guide), a museum about 20 MAD, four petit taxi rides at 15–30 MAD, a fish lunch at the port 50–120 MAD and dinner 80–150 MAD. A sunbed adds 30–100 MAD.

Can I do Agadir in a day from a cruise ship?

Yes: the city sights are 2–5 km from the port. Take a taxi from the port gate (agree 30–100 MAD to the centre), start with the cable car at 10:00, then the souk (not on Mondays), and eat at the fish stalls next to the port before going back. Full details on our Agadir cruise port guide.

Can I walk between the sights?

Partly. The Marina, the port fish stalls and the beach promenade are walkable, and the cable car station at Pont Tildi is about 15 minutes on foot from the Marina. Souk El Had, the museums and Medina Polizzi need a petit taxi (15–30 MAD in town, 30–50 MAD to Medina Polizzi).

Should I ride the cable car at night?

Only if you have already seen the kasbah. The enclosure closes around 19:00 (20:00 in summer), so an evening ride gives you the lights of the bay and the free esplanade, but not the kasbah itself. The best compromise is to go up about two hours before sunset, visit the kasbah, and stay for sunset.

Is this plan OK with children?

Yes. Drop the museum, give the beach more time, and add a short camel ride if they ask. Children under 1.40 m pay 100 MAD on the cable car; children 7–17 pay 65 MAD at the kasbah, under 7 free. More in Agadir with kids.
