Opening hours

This is the one fact about the museum that nobody agrees on:

SourceHoursClosed
2026 travel guide10:00–18:00Tuesday
Older local guides9:30–12:30 and 14:00–17:30Sunday and religious holidays

The safe plan: go on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday, in the morning (between 10:00 and 12:30 it is open under both schedules). Our Agadir opening hours tool keeps the latest information.

What's inside

The Musée du Patrimoine Amazigh is a small municipal museum devoted to the Amazigh (Berber) culture of the Souss, the region around Agadir. It holds several hundred objects:

  1. Jewellery. Silver and coral pieces from the Souss: the strongest part of the collection, and a useful reference before you buy in the souk.
  2. Rugs. Regional weaving, worth a look before you shop for carpets.
  3. Pottery from the Souss.
  4. Musical instruments, including the ribab and the loutar of Amazigh music.
  5. Manuscripts, some in Tifinagh, the Amazigh script you see on official signs across Morocco.

Plan 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.

Getting there

  • Address: Passage Aït Souss, off Avenue Hassan II, downtown Agadir.
  • On foot: walkable from the city centre.
  • Petit taxi: a short ride from Founty or the hotel zone, typically 15–30 MAD by day on the meter.
  • Arriving by plane? See Agadir airport to the city for getting into town first.

A culture morning downtown

The museum is small, so it works best as part of a half day on Agadir's history and Amazigh culture:

  1. Amazigh Heritage Museum (about 20 MAD, 45 minutes to 1.5 hours): jewellery, rugs and manuscripts of the Souss.
  2. Jardin d'Olhão and the Musée de la Mémoire (garden free, museum around 10–20 MAD, closed Monday): photos and archives of the 1960 earthquake that destroyed the old town.
  3. Agadir Oufella Kasbah by cable car (130 MAD return + 90 MAD entry): the ruins of that old town and the view over the bay. Go before 19:00 (20:00 in summer), when the kasbah closes.

The kasbah closes later than either museum, so do the museums in the morning and the hill in the afternoon. On a Monday, the Musée de la Mémoire and the Souk El Had are both closed; on a Tuesday or a Sunday, the Amazigh museum may be. Our Agadir trip planner can fit this into the rest of your stay.

Is it worth it?

Yes, if you have any interest in Amazigh culture or plan to buy silver jewellery or rugs: an hour here teaches you what the real pieces look like. It costs almost nothing.

Lower priority on a one-day visit: the cable car and the Agadir Oufella Kasbah come first. It fits well into Agadir in 3 days or a cloudy morning; check the sky on Agadir weather today.

Things nobody tells you

  • Make a culture morning of it: the Musée de la Mémoire in the Jardin d'Olhão (1960 earthquake photos, around 10–20 MAD, closed Monday) is also downtown.
  • Then shop: head to the Souk El Had (closed Mondays) for jewellery and rugs, armed with what you just saw. Our fair prices guide helps you haggle.
  • For serious silver, the Tiznit jewellery souk is the regional centre; see our Legzira and Tiznit day trip.
  • For the reconstructed traditional architecture, visit the Medina Polizzi in Ben Sergao.

When is the Amazigh museum open?

It is closed one day a week, Tuesday or Sunday depending on the source: check before going. A 2026 guide gives 10:00–18:00, closed Tuesday; older local guides give 9:30–12:30 and 14:00–17:30, closed Sunday and on religious holidays. Plan for a midday break just in case.

In Passage Aït Souss, off Avenue Hassan II, in downtown Agadir. It is a municipal museum, within walking distance of the city centre.

What is in the museum?

Several hundred objects from the Souss region: silver and coral jewellery, rugs, pottery, musical instruments such as the ribab and loutar, and manuscripts, including some in Tifinagh, the Amazigh script.

How long does a visit take?

45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on how long you spend with the jewellery cases.

Is the Amazigh museum worth it?

Yes, for the price of a mint tea and an hour of your time. It is the best place in Agadir to see the real Souss jewellery and crafts before you shop for copies in the souk. It is also a good plan for a rare rainy or windy day.
