Agadir Cruise Port: How to Spend Your Day Ashore

Ships dock inside the working port at the north end of the bay, with no terminal and no walking route into town. A taxi or the ship shuttle gets you to the cable car, the souk and the beach in minutes. Here is what fits in 6 to 9 hours, what it costs and how to be back on time.

The Monday trap. Souk El Had, the city's main sight after the cable car, is closed every Monday, and so is the earthquake memory museum. Many ship excursions still drive past it. If your call is on a Monday, plan the cable car, the kasbah, Medina Polizzi and the beach instead.

Where you dock

Cruise ships berth inside the commercial and fishing Port of Agadir, at the north end of the bay. There is no cruise terminal building: you walk off the ship and leave through the port passenger gate, where the taxis and the shuttle wait. Some ships anchor and tender passengers in. A dedicated terminal near the Royal Navy quay, towards the Marina, is being studied by the port authority (about 19 M MAD of studies), but no works had started by October 2026.

Agadir is a growing port of call: 91,345 cruise passengers in 2025, up 54%. Lines calling in November 2026 include TUI Cruises (Mein Schiff), Norwegian, Phoenix Reisen, AIDA, Regent Seven Seas, Cunard and Oceania. The busy season runs from October to April, which is also Agadir's best weather for sightseeing: highs of 21–26 °C. Check the day's sky and sea on Agadir weather today.

Getting into town

  • Distances: the Marina is 2–3 km from the ship, the main beach and the centre 4–5 km. The cable car's lower station at Pont Tildi is just south of the port.
  • Walking: not recommended. The way out runs along industrial port roads with heavy trucks.
  • Ship shuttle: often paid; it usually runs to the Marina or Place Al Amal. From the Marina, the cable car is 15 minutes on foot and the beach promenade starts right there.
  • Taxis at the gate: 30–100 MAD to the centre. Agree the price before you get in; drivers inside the port quote up to 150–200 MAD. For a loop of several sights, fix one price with one driver. Once in town, orange petit taxis use the meter by day (15–30 MAD a ride).
  • Bus: Alsa line L98 (Inezgane – Port de Commerce) serves the port. Cheap, but slow for a port day.
  • Apps: Uber has operated in Agadir since July 2026, and inDrive is widely used.

Bring dirhams in small notes: the cable car, kasbah and souk are cash-first. Dirhams cannot be bought abroad, so change money or use a cash machine once in town. Prices to expect: fair prices.

Two ready-made plans

6 hours ashore: the essentials

  1. Taxi from the gate to the cable car station at Pont Tildi; be there for the 10:00 opening.
  2. Cable car up (130 MAD) and the kasbah (90 MAD). Morning is the best time on the hill: clear air, few people. Windbreaker and hat. About 2 hours.
  3. Souk El Had by taxi, 1–1.5 hours (Monday: the beach promenade from the Marina instead).
  4. Grilled fish at the port stalls, next to your ship; agree the total before cooking.
  5. Back at the gate with at least an hour to spare.

9 hours ashore: add the beach or the crocodiles

  1. The 6-hour plan, then either:
  2. Beach afternoon: walk the corniche south from the Marina, swim between the flags (lifeguards mid-June to mid-September), a drink at a Marina café.
  3. Or Crocoparc (100 MAD, 15 km east, open until 17:30) by taxi, if you are travelling with children.

The same day for non-cruisers, with afternoon timings and a sunset finish, is on Agadir in 1 day. Every price and opening hour: Agadir attraction prices.

Ship excursion vs platform tour vs DIY

The one firm rule: the ship waits for its own excursions, not for independent ones. For anything more than an hour from the port, either book through the ship or choose a tour that promises port drop-off with a comfortable margin. City sights are easy and cheap on your own. Hustles to know before you go: Agadir scams.

Getting back on time

  • Check the clock. Morocco is on GMT (UTC+0) all year since 20 September 2026, with no clock change for Ramadan. Ships often keep their own time; ask which one your all-aboard time uses.
  • Be at the port gate at least 60 minutes before all-aboard, more if your ship tenders: there are queues at security and for the tender.
  • Leave the souk early. It is easy to lose half an hour finding your gate (there are 13), then a taxi.
  • Keep the ship's port agent number and a photo of your ship's berth or the gate.
  • Wind: the cable car stops in strong wind; if it is not running, take a taxi up to the kasbah car park (then a 10–15 minute walk).

More ideas for a longer stay on land: things to do in Agadir, 3 days in Agadir, and whether the city is safe to explore alone: is Agadir safe? (yes, it is one of Morocco's most relaxed cities).

Agadir cruise port: frequently asked questions

Where do cruise ships dock in Agadir?

Inside the commercial and fishing Port of Agadir at the north end of the bay. There is no cruise terminal building: you leave through the port passenger gate, and some ships tender instead. A dedicated terminal is only at the study stage (October 2026).

Can I walk from the Agadir cruise port into town?

It is not recommended. The Marina is 2–3 km away and the beach and centre 4–5 km, along industrial port roads with trucks. Take the ship shuttle (often paid) to the Marina or Place Al Amal, or a taxi from the gate.

How much is a taxi from the cruise port?

Taxis waiting at the port gate ask 30–100 MAD to the centre; quotes from inside the port can reach 150–200 MAD. Agree the price before you get in, and carry small dirham notes. For a few hours of sightseeing, negotiate a fixed price with one driver for the whole loop. See fair prices.

Is Souk El Had open when my ship is in?

Every day except Monday, when it closes for cleaning. Many stalls also shut for a few hours around Friday midday prayers. On a Monday, do the cable car, kasbah, Medina Polizzi and the beach instead. Souk El Had guide.

Should I book a ship excursion or go on my own?

On your own is cheaper and easy for the city: the cable car (130 MAD), kasbah (90 MAD) and souk are close to the port. Take a ship excursion, or a platform tour with port pickup, for anything over an hour away (Paradise Valley, Crocoparc, Taroudant), where a delay on the road could make you miss the ship.

What time zone is Agadir in?

Morocco has been on GMT (UTC+0) since 20 September 2026, all year, with no clock change for Ramadan. Your ship may keep its own time: ask which clock the all-aboard time is given in, and set your phone accordingly.

Can I do Marrakech from the Agadir cruise port?

Only as a long ship excursion: Marrakech is about 3–3.5 hours each way by road, leaving a few hours in the city. Most passengers enjoy Agadir and its surroundings more. If you go, plan with tickets-marrakech.com and our Marrakech day trip guide.
